For doctors and medical staff in small clinics or large hospitals, is it important to consider the functions and features of medical equipment before a purchase. Hi low tables provide outstanding flexibility in both the features they offer, as well as their practicality in a variety of different treatment and examination settings. Understanding just how versatile these tables really are may help with selecting your next examination table.

One of the first things that hi low tables offer for patients and medical staff is the ease of transfer on and off the table. Many patients find hopping on and off standard fixed examination tables extremely difficult, even if they don't have any type of physical impairment. Some doctors provide non-slip stools, but even those are problematic for many patients. A better option is a hi lo table that allows the medical staff to lower the table to make getting on and off easy for the patient. After the patient is comfortable seated or reclined on the table a hand or foot control is used to power the table up to the desired height. This means that the table, depending of course on the model and manufacturer, can go down to as little as 17.5 inches from the ground to the top of the seat pad. When the patient is on the table, it can then be raised to whatever height is comfortable for the procedure or examination to a maximum of 38 inches. The standard hi low table can safely be used for patients up to 400 pounds, with other bariatric models offering safe lifting and lowering of patients of up to 600 pounds.

Another consideration for medical staff regarding the comfort of the patient is the multitude of positions that the patient can be placed in on the table. The backrest or head section will adjust to 75 degrees from a flat surface and the foot section can also adjust from 30 degrees to minus 90 degrees. This allows the patient to be fully supported in any range of those position options. The surface of the hi low table is designed to provide continuous support to the patient with a durable, easy to clean and sterilize surface upholstery.

Along with patient comfort, the practical considerations of medical staff are also offered in the various hi low tables. This includes the adjustable height which can be easily changed for different staff members, with the standard hand control or an optional foot control that is available for most models and brands. Rear casters that easily lock into place are a great feature for swinging the table out from a wall or easily positioning it for specific types of examinations and procedures. Some models offer the option of a caster on the front section of the table, for even greater mobility. These basic models of hi low tables are low cost, long lasting and ideal for any patient area. Although they don't have the all the power positioning features of the more costly models, they are easy to store, very easy to clean, and a good idea for use with patients of all ages.
