The wide range of options available in surgical tables allows doctors and medical staff to choose options and features for the table that suit their specific needs. Although many features are standard on different models of surgical table designs it is the differences that often make the determination between which is the best for your requirements.

Since surgical tables are stationary and don't need to be moved from location to location, choosing a table built to be stable and solid is the best option for any operating theater. A stainless steel central column is perfect for added stability and maintenance free surface area. The material won't corrode or rust and all types of cleaning and disinfecting solutions can be used on the table on both the stainless steel center column as well as the frame and upholstery material.

Important to consider are the options for positioning the patient on the table. The more options you have to adjust the table, supports and heights the easier that even the most complicated procedure can become. Surgical tables that can be adjusted with regards to height, head rest position, leg rest position and even the ability to laterally tilt the table should be a major factor to consider. Many of the tables offer a full 18 percent lateral tilt in both directions, ensuring that the medical team isn't required to work over the top of the table; rather the patient is centrally located for a variety of different medical procedures. Elevation of the entire table can range from thirty one to forty one inches, which allows for various comfort height levels for surgeons, anesthetists, and other specialists. Without this option those medical professionals that are taller or shorter than average may find extended times at the table to be uncomfortable and very physically demanding.

Other features that surgical tables should have include a variety of different accessories.  These accessories can include different types of rests and supports including shoulder supports and arm rests as well as lateral supports and leg supports. Stirrups are an essential consideration for many types of procedures so having them supplied with the table will ensure that the accessories needed are always available and work with the specific table. Some operating tables may also come with additional clamps and other models may have a variety of other features that are appropriate for some types of specialized procedures.

Surgical tables also need to have a variety of options for patient positioning for procedures including full Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg position. The table may also have up to a four inch kidney break position, which is essential for different surgical applications. Knowing just what options the surgical table offers for unique or specific positioning of the patient can be very helpful in selecting a table that is just what you require. Having more options for positioning the patient rather than just the basics can allow a greater number of uses for the table without the need to replace equipment or buy additional surgical tables over time.
